Chapter 72.1 - Night Changan screen test
Tang Xiao was packaged safely and delivered to Chief Ning’s house.
The dumb husky and Mu Cheng’s golden retriever’s puppies were already in the phase where they liked to make huge messes.
So if you took your eyes off them for a minute, they’d run around crazily.
Sometimes, they’d drag one of Tang Xiao’s dresses and run around.
Worried that the puppies might disturb Xiao Lin, Mu Cheng decided to take them away.
Tang Xiao suddenly had the strange feeling that it was like they’d divorced and were splitting up the assets.
She looked tearily at the puppies, rubbing them.
“In a few days, I’ll go with you to the Night Changan screen test? En?” Mu Cheng held the puppies’ leashes.
“En, okay.”
For Night Changan’s director, they invited one of the top directors within China - Li Jinrui.
On the day of the screen test, even if it was just for a small role, there were still many actors and actresses listening around.
Night Changan was half of a historical drama.
It spoke about Nanwei country’s fifth prince and spoke of planning war strategies, and how he walked on the path of becoming the emperor.
Tang Xiao was trying out for the role of Nanwei country’s eldest princess, the male lead’s little sister who had grown up without a care in the world.
Director Li first saw her in director Qiao’s film and thought she was a good fit for the role.
When the screen test happened, he didn’t make things too difficult for her.
He chose a medium difficulty scene for her to act out and Tang Xiao easily passed.
“Tang Xiao, I saw you in the Black and White Thread between Life, you were very clean. I feel like you really fit this role. After everything is organised, I’ll let my assistant contact your manager.” Director Li looked over at Tang Xiao’s filmed screen test, and was very satisfied.
Tang Xiao flipped through the script, “That, have you chosen someone for Liu Ji yet? I want to try out for Liu Ji.”
Director Li’s brows furrowed.
He hadn’t chosen someone for Liu Ji yet, and her scenes were few, a lot less than Changle princess’.
But her character was very rich, as the current crown prince’s second madam, she was charming and enchanting, very good at understanding people's’ feelings.
But she was also too clever, always wanting to help her husband on the throne, assisting him step by step.
It was just a pity that she would die in the hands of the fifth princes’ people, so even though the crown prince lost the fight for the throne, she still ended up with the crown prince.
Even though Tang Xiao was nominated for best supporting actress at the Orchid Awards, a lot of the reason was because the film that director Qiao made for her, was a good fit for her naturally.
Whereas Liu Ji, this character, would be a true test for her acting skills.
“Just let me try it out. If I don’t do well, I’ll do Changle princess.” Tang Xiao’s face was hopeful.
“En.” Director Li nodded towards the camera, “Let her try out the previous section. Xiao Wang, help her try out her lines.”
“No need, I’ll do it.” Mu Cheng pushed open the door.
“No need, I’ll do it.” Mu Cheng pushed open the door.
Mu Cheng’s studio had invested in Night Changan but lately, Mu Cheng had been too busy so he only chose a small role in the drama.
It was the first time he had directly invested in a drama so he’d invited nearly all of the famous actors and actresses in China to come and try out.
But Mu Cheng wouldn’t be the male lead, instead, he’d be another important actor -- the crown prince.
Who was also Liu Ji’s husband.
Mu Cheng had received two awards for best male actor, so suggesting that he’d try out a few lines with Tang Xiao made director Li freeze.
He thought for a moment and realised that Mu Cheng had already decided which character he wanted to be, so he was just accompanying Tang Xiao today.
His eyes moved between the two people but didn’t say anything.
“Prepare a bit.”
On screen, Tang Xiao lightly closed her eyes.
When she opened them again, her eyes were gentle and alluring, slightly dark as her lips slightly curved up.
In that split moment, her whole aura had changed.
Her steps were light as she walked towards Mu Cheng.
“Your highness, it doesn’t matter if you win or if you lose. I don’t care about that, I’ve never cared about status, power.”
“Then what do you care about?” Mu Cheng’s expression was a bit blank, bewildered.
Tang Xiao lightly smiled, her eyes even more enchanting as she looked deeply into the eyes of the person in front of her, “It’s you.”
The crown prince deeply loved Liu Ji and it wasn’t just because she was beautiful, or because she was clever.
It was because she was the only person who understood him.
Tang Xiao wasn’t the best fit for Liu Ji but she was a good fit for someone who deeply loved Mu Cheng.
Tang Xiao and Mu Cheng were the ones who were a good fit for Liu Ji and the crown prince.
Good acting skills were hard to come by, but true emotions were even harder to come by.
When director Li clapped ‘cut’, he’d already decided who he wanted to cast.
