Chapter 16.2 - Betrothal gift




Lou Lianxin’s face was very frightened with teary eyes, “Daddy, it’s gone … it’s gone missing …”

“What’s missing?”

“.... The bodhi bracelet that the empress bestowed to your daughter, daddy! What am I going to do now? This was something that the empress gave as a betrothal gift. Tonight, the empress said specifically for your daughter to wear it. If the empress knew that it went missing, and something imperially bestowed … I’m afraid …”

Lou Lianxin wringed her hands, shuddering and appearing so anxious it was as if she’d dig up the whole place to find the bracelet.

“Daddy, your daughter doesn’t want to die, would the empress became so mad she’d chop off your daughter’s head?”

“Don’t speak nonsense!” Lou Qufeng’s face darkened even more.

Losing an imperially bestowed gift wouldn’t be a cause for execution but it would leave a bad impression on the empress.

He wasted a lot of effort for Lou Lianxin to get in the empress’ good graces so if that was all for nothing … Lou Qufeng furrowed his brows tightly, “Lian’er, think carefully. Where would you have put it?”

“Your daughter was scared of losing it so it was always on my body. But I turned around and it went missing.”

“Who did you see today?”

“Today … today …” Lou Lianxin anxiously turned and turned, trying to think.

“Today, because I knew Jingsheng was coming back, I went to the Li residence. But knowing he came to the residence, I hurried back. But then, I still saw the bracelet. Then .. then, I thought that big sister and Jingsheng were fighting in front of the residence, then I went to pull big sister. Then … then …”

Lou Lianxin’s face suddenly paled as if she thought of something.

She suddenly turned to face Lou Qingwu, leaping forward and falling to the ground.

She tugged her wrist desperately, “Big sister, it was Lian’er who was making a fuss about nothing. But you can’t take little sister’s bracelet. That would give trouble for the whole residence. Lian’er begs you, please, give me back my bracelet! I’m begging you!”

Lou Qingwu was watching Lou Lianxin like she’d watch a show.

From when she said the item was imperially bestowed, she instantly thought of Dong Mei.

That bodhi bracelet’s likely at the Leaning Wind Pavilion, right?

Looking at how Lou Lianxin was so desperately anxious and tormenting herself, even Lou Qingwu felt tired.

If her little sister wanted to die so much, then as a good older sister, she could help her out, right?

“Big sister, Lian’er knows that because you were in the countryside, you’ve never seen such nice things. But whatever you want, little sister can give you. It’s just that this bracelet, could you give it back to your little sister?”

Lou Lianxin continued to cry as if she personally saw Lou Qingwu steal it.

Lou Qufeng originally didn’t believe it but seeing this, he suspiciously turned to look at Lou Qingwu.

Did she really steal it?

If he had such a inferior daughter, then it would be better to send her off back to the country.

If he left her here, she’d just continue to make him lose face and who knew what kind of trouble she’d stir up!

Lou Qufeng’s eyes flashed sharp letting Lou Qingwu’s mouth slowly curl up. Her good father has probably started believing her now, right?

She bent down, pulling Lou Lianxin up.

Even though it was clearly such a light and weak action, it actually really pulled Lou Lianxin up.

Taking a handkerchief from her bosom, she wiped away Lou Lianxin’s invisible tears, “Little sister, did you really see me steal your bracelet?

Lou Lianxin bit her lip, of course she didn’t!

But she just had to continue saying she did so that once she finds it in the Leaning Wind Pavilion, she won’t get away from being a thief!

But right now, she had to find a way for daddy to go search the pavilion.

She lowered her eyes which were flashing maliciously, “Lian’er didn’t see but it was only big sister who’s come to contact with me. If big sister wants to prove you’re innocent, then why don’t you let everyone go search your rooms. If it wasn’t big sister who took it, little sister will kneel and kowtow to apologise.”
