Chapter 26.2 - His probing

Her lowered eyes looked at the limestone slabs, the coolness of the cobblestones unable to extinguish the burning hatred inside of her.

The more that she walked inside, the closer she got to that place.

Her mind recalled the scene right before she died, when there was blood everywhere and her body was black and blue …

“Qingwu.” Behind her, someone suddenly called, shocking Lou Qingwu out of her day dream nightmare.

Her whole body was stiff and she found it hard to speak.

Li Jingsheng watched her and in his eyes, this became a silent accusation of him.

He quickly stepped forward, unable to resist grabbing her arms.

But Lou Qingwu’s back was facing him, leading him to feel uneasy.

Just then, at the Vermillion Bird gate, he couldn’t offend the Countess of Chaoxia so he couldn’t stand up for her. Is she …

Seeing Lou Qingwu ignore him, Li Jingsheng became even more upset, unable to resist calling out again, “Qingwu?”

Lou Qingwu lowered her eyes again, hiding the emotions in her eyes.

She had been trying to steady herself for a while but she still couldn’t hide all of her resentment and anger completely.

Right now, it wasn’t her past life.

Nothing’s happened yet.

She forced herself to calm down and her face was back to normal.

Then she finally lifted up her head but her face was still pale, which made her look even more gentle and weak, like a porcelain doll that would shatter at any moment.

Li Jingsheng saw that she still had her back facing him and still didn’t speak, so he was unable to resist moving to in front of her.

He stooped down and softly asked, “Qingwu, what’s wrong? Does your injury still hurt?”

Right now, Lou Qingwu didn’t have the patience to deal with Li Jingsheng so she just shook her head and didn’t say anything.

But to Li Jingsheng, it looked like she was too upset about what just happened which made him feel even more upset.

On one hand, he had begun to feel affection for Lou Qingwu so he didn’t want her to get hurt and seeing her so weak and gentle, he couldn’t help but dote on her.

On the other hand, he couldn’t offend the Countess of Chaoxia for her or anyone who had a higher official ranking than him because he had to think about his own career.

But because of this, he would only make Lou Qingwu even more lonely, which triggered his feelings of protection and responsibility for her.

She was heart broken, so did this mean that he took up a place in her heart?

He was unwilling to give up on her so at that time, he was planning to first marry Lou Lianxin and at the first possible moment, take Lou Qingwu as a concubine or secretly hide her outside as a mistress somewhere.

As long as she was willing to wait for him, nothing would be a problem!

Following this train of thought, Li Jingsheng couldn’t help but become even more excited, his eyes flashing a gentle light.

At the very least, he had to first cover up these current events, “Qingwu, I really was about to help you but …”

“It’s already late, the banquet’s about to start.” Lou Qingwu straightforwardly cut him off.

Her gift was already given to her little sister so she wasn’t willing to interact with Li Jingsheng any more.

She also didn’t want to hear his explanation and how he would push all the blame off himself.

After all, if someone had the heart to, they could use this encounter for Lou Lianxin to find more trouble for her.

So how could she let herself fall into that trap?

Leaving behind that phrase, Lou Qingwu didn’t look at Li Jingsheng any more, bypassing him to continue walk towards the Peony Garden.

Li Jingsheng just watched her silhouette, his mind flashing her watery eyes when she lifted up her head as well as her pale white face.

His heart couldn’t help but stir as he thought that she was willing to be so heartbroken over that previous affair.

Oh well, he’ll just ask her out on another day and coax her a bit.

She was already willing to take a knife for him so her feelings for him were definitely deep.

He only had to put in a little more effort to let this naive and innocent girl easily fall into his hands.

He smirked and stroked his pleats as he followed Lou Qingwu from a distance.
