Chapter 63.2 - Discussing a marriage

But just as Lou Qingwu left, the empress spoke to behind the curtains, “This girl’s a good child. It’s only a pity that her life isn’t good. If she’s really forced to her wit’s end, Rui’er, just marry her. Even as a concubine, it’d be better than her being married off faraway.”

Having her on the side and being able to see her at least, would mean that she wouldn’t suffer too much.

“Yes, empress-mother. Your son understands.”

“Alright, follow and see her. It’d be best if that child was willing.”

She could see in an eye that Lou Qingwu was a smart and sharp girl.

If she followed Rui’er in the future, maybe she’d even be able to help him.

Or at least, she wouldn’t be like those ones in the palace with a stomach full of schemes, making the whole residence restless.

“Yes, empress-mother.”

Behind the curtains was no other than the second prince, Xiahou Rui.

He came out from Kunning Palace and walked towards the palace exit.

He walked quickly, and not too long later, saw Lou Qingwu’s slender finger.

He flew quickly towards her and after composing his face to his usual cold demeanour, made a coincidental meeting happen in front of the imperial gardens.

“Miss Lou, what a coincidence.”

Lou Qingwu saw Xiahou Rui and raised a brow but didn’t reveal a surprised expression, “Second prince, it really is a “coincidence””.

Her light and airy tone brought a hint of deeper questioning.

Xiahou Rui froze for a moment and immediately thought of her intelligent and sharp mind.

His handsome face reddened.

When he heard Lou Qingwu’s rejection at Kunning Palace, he hadn’t fully come to his senses until just then.

When he finally did and thought of how he hid behind a curtain, he knew that even though he’d be able to hide against most people, it’d be hard for her to not notice.

But at that time, he couldn’t say clearly what his heart was like.

It was like he’d loosened a breath but it also felt like his heart was stopped up with something.

He’d only seen her a few times and couldn’t say clearly how he felt about her, but he couldn’t deny that it was at least, a good feeling.

Seeing that Lou Qingwu was still watching him, he covered his mouth and coughed to cover up his emotions, “Let’s go?”

“En.” Knowing that Xiahou Rui had something to say, Lou Qingwu didn’t reject him.

She also had something to say to him.

Seeing as how she’d already decided to stand on his side, then they’d have to plan quickly for what was about to happen.

The fact that she’d struck during the emperor’s birthday banquet probably messed up those people’s plans.

She was afraid that they’d do something ahead of schedule.

As she’d already made a decision, then before they moved, she’d have to make some preparations early, just in case.

The two people followed the stone path forwards but walked in silence.

Xiahou Rui had only gathered his thoughts when they’d nearly reached the Vermillion Bird gate.

“Last time, I didn’t find out who it was. The palace maid who put the “no sons grass” in Liuhua Palace killed herself first and cut off any leads.”

He only knew that consort Ying said something to his emperor-father which made the originally explosively angry emperor turn into someone who was willing to keep the peace.

Even the grievance suffered by his empress-mother was just placated by a few imperially bestowed items.

But for every day that he hadn’t caught the real culprit, it was another day that he wouldn’t be able to rest easy.

Afterwards, he went to investigate further and still couldn’t find any leads.

The person behind it all was buried too deeply and just by his current power, he couldn’t even touch them a bit.

This was what made him feel powerless.

Lou Qingwu lifted her head up and saw a clear sky but her mood was too calm, “Even if you did find out who did it, you still wouldn’t be able to do anything.”

“En? You know who it is?” Xiahou Rui was extremely surprised.

Lou Qingwu’s mouth corner jerked mockingly, how could she not know?

Seeing that “no sons grass”, she instantly knew it had something to do with the Ruan family.

To be able to move so freely in the imperial chambers, well, the Ruan family doesn’t just only have the imperial consort Ruan.

But with no evidence, even if Xiahou Rui knew, there’d be no way to investigate.

Furthermore, she didn’t know if there was anyone else who was implicated in it besides the Ruan family.

So as to avoid beating the grass and alerting their enemies, they couldn’t move the imperial consort Ruan just yet.

‘Even if I knew, i wouldn’t tell you.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’ll mess everything up.”

Lou Qingwu spoke too plainly, Xiahou Rui’s face changed but still looked at Lou Qingwu.

He rubbed his forehead, extremely helplessly, “You haven’t even told me so how could you know that I’d mess it up?”
