Chapter 190.2 - The person they like

When Feng Yege entered the empress dowager’s Renshou palace, he saw someone unexpected there.

When the girl saw Feng Yege, her eyes first reddened before suddenly thinking of something and silently standing up.

She lowered her eyes, trying to make herself invisible as she stood to the side.

To her side, the empress dowager watched this clearly as her well preserved face revealed a small bit of pity.

Then she looked helplessly at the Night Prince who she was so proud of.

“Yege, ah, you’ve finally decided to see me. You’ve come back for so long and I’ve only seen you at the emperor’s birthday banquet.”

“Ye greets the empress dowager, may the empress dowager have thousands of gold and peace.” After Feng Yege spoke, he blinked at her as his handsome face slightly smiled.

His phoenix eyes were shining as his gentle voice made the empress dowager unable to even frown at him, “This child, you just know how to take advantage of my weakness. Alright, alright, quickly come over and let me see. It’s been so long since I’ve seen you, your face looks so much worse, and to think that you’re a doctor.”

“The empress dowager has given a lesson, Ye will definitely exercise more.” Feng Yege finished speaking as he walked towards the empress dowager.

A eunuch immediately placed a chair by the empress dowager’s side.

He lifted up his long gown as he sat down.

The Countess of Chaoxia, who kept sneaking glances at him, felt her heart beating fast.

But thinking of her father’s warning, she virtuously walked up to him and did a proper palace greeting, “Yiren greets the Night Prince.”

“En.” Feng Yege answered her calmly, he didn’t like the Countess of Chaoxia much.

Instead, he disliked how she initially schemed with Lou Lianxin to harm Lou Qingwu, making him annoyed of her.

But it seems like she hadn’t appeared in front of Lou Qingwu lately so he treated her like a passer-by.

Feng Yege’s indifferent attitude made the Countess of Chaoxia’s eyes redden but in front of the empress dowager, she couldn’t say anything.

So she quietly sat back down.

How could the empress dowager not notice her small actions?

But she didn’t want to let the person she liked feel troubled.

After all, in all of these years, she had seen how troublesome and stubborn this Countess of Chaoxia had been, she really wasn’t appropriate for Yege, that child.

“Yege ah, you’re not young anymore either. It’s time for you to get a consort. You’ve don't’ have someone who could truly care for you by your side, so I can’t rest easy.” She talked casually with Feng Yege about how he had been recently before turning the conversation towards her aim of the day.

“I’ve let the empress dowager worry, but Ye doesn’t have any thoughts on marrying a consort yet.”

“Oh? Is there anyone you like?” The empress dowager was a bit unsatisfied with the rumours lately, what was so good about the Lou family’s eldest miss?

Even if she had been schemed by her concubine-born sisters before, just seeing how she had ambiguous ties with several princes made her unfit for Yege!

Just thinking about the recent matters that had been reported to her, made her brows furrow deeply together.

No matter what, she had to make Yege give her a definite answer.

“... not right now.” Feng Yege was a bit helpless.

Why was the empress dowager managing things all the way to him?

But he couldn’t reject her outrightly, so he could only tactfully express his opinions.

“Really?” The empress dowager’s eyes lit up. “I have a few people here, why don’t you take a look and see if there are any you like?”

The empress gestured towards a senior aide near here as the servant quickly grabbed a few portrait scrolls.

Once she came back, she respectfully placed them near the empress dowager and Feng Yege.

The Countess of Chaoxia had recently started coming to the empress dowager’s side quite often, hoping to curry favour with the empress dowager.

At least right now, the empress dowager was willing to open her mouth and speak for her, so she thought still had a chance.

But who knew that the empress dowager actually didn’t have any thoughts of adding her to the pool of people for Feng Yege.

Her heart felt a bit cold as her reddened eyes lowered.

She couldn’t make her expressions too obvious, but she was still bitter inside.

Feng Yege didn’t reject her outrightly so listening to the empress dowager, he scrutinised the portraits seriously.

The portraits were of noble girls who had reached marriageable age, some gentler and warmer countesses, etc.

Feng Yege looked at all of them, one by one as the senior aide by his side began to introduce what family those girls were from.

Feng Yege’s half lowered eyes made his eyes unreadable.

TL note:  

When the empress dowager addresses herself, she calls herself, "the grieving one". This is because the only way an empress can become an empress dowager is when her husband dies, so it's out of respect for her dead husband. She doesn't call herself 'I' like a pleb.

I totally forgot about the Countess of Chaoxia and her raging crush on Feng Yege.

(Fear not, I just skipped ahead and there’s a cute scene between Feng Yege and LQW soon, and also a funny scene hohoho)
