Chapter 133.2 - Riding together on one horse
“Actually, I’m also curious, when did you learn how to ride a horse, Qingwu?”
“A few years ago, I was sent to the countryside and that’s where I learnt how to ride a horse.”
“Ah?” Xiahou Qing was a bit regretful that he asked that question.
Once the reason for her being sent to the countryside is brought up, the conversation could be easily steered away.
So he immediately turned away from that conversation topic.
But before he could speak, Lou Qingwu suddenly raised her reins and kicked her horse hard, as the horse immediately stated galloping fast.
“Third prince, let’s have a race and see who can reach the military grounds first!”
Xiahou Qing looked at the slowly disappearing thin figure in front of him as his eyes brightened.
He also raised his reins and his horse whip, racing to catch up with her.
“Good!”
The two people’s figures quickly disappeared and inside the horse carriage, Feng Yege looked down, his eyes dark, not knowing who the cold light in his eyes had hurt.
Once they reached the military grounds, they immediately headed towards the hunting grounds.
They’d already made a reservation beforehand so the hunting grounds were very empty, it was just them.
Feng Yege jumped off the carriage as Ye Ji followed him, chattering beside him.
“Brother Ye, teach me how to ride a horse, I don’t know how ot.”
“Then just watch us hunt.”
“Then just watch us hunt.”
“Brother Ye …. Are you really that mean?” Ye Ji blinked her pretty eyes, pitifully dangling her head downwards as she shook his sleeve.
Feng Yege flung his sleeve away.
“It’s not being mean, men and women shouldn’t be so close, this isn’t good.”
Lou Qingwu had just been passing by and accidentally heard this.
She suddenly staggered before Xiahou Qing supported her up.
“Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” Lou Qingwu shook her head, continuing forward with an expressionless face.
Feng Yege’s originally lazy expression carelessly swept her and for some reason, his lips seemed to curl up in a smile.
His arm was immediately hugged again.
“Brother Ye, I don’t mind!”
“But I mind.” His calm expression was one to reject people a thousand miles away but made Ye Ji’s heart beat even harder.
This was the man she chose.
“Okay, okay, I’ll just get someone to lead my horse then.”
Ye Ji was forced to head towards Xiahou Qing and ask him for a skilled deputy general.
If she was going to pretend not to know how to ride a horse, she could only continue pretending.
Otherwise, according to brother Ye’s personality, he’d definitely only have an even worse impression of her.
Xiahou Qing immediately ordered a subordinate to find a deputy general.
Feng Yege looked up, his eyes falling on the Lou Qingwu and Xiahou Qing who weren’t too far away.
He quickly and cleanly hopped on a horse, his handsome face illuminated by the sunlight.
His black horse riding outfit made him even more handsome and set off his handsome face even more.
Ye Ji kicked the horse stomach’s to go forward a few steps, not too close and not too far away from Feng Yege.
Her eyes followed his line of sight onto Xiahou Qing and Lou Qingwu.
Her beautiful eyes curled, bringing a few points of charming laughter as she raised her voice, “Brother, this is so boring. Why don’t all four of us race? Me and brother Ye on one team, you and Qingwu little sister on one team and see who hunts the most?”
Xiahou Qing turned back to face her, gently smiling, “I don’t mind, what about you, Night Prince?”
“En.”
Ye Ji grew even more happy, letting the deputy general lead her horse towards where Feng Yege was waiting.

“Then me and brother Ye will go east, you guys can go west. Just like that!” After she finished, she urged the deputy general to lead her faster.
She occasionally turned to look back towards Feng Yege, but his eyes were down as he pulled at the horse reins, slowly meandering forward.

Delete@Anon That's pretty hard, you're probably better off trying to find a Japanese novel? At least in harem type novels, the male lead is sometimes ugly. Or maybe a school type romance where the female lead is kind of plain, but the male lead is almost always handsome and smart~
DeleteIn Chinese novels, the female lead always has to be pretty, or she might start off as an ugly swan, but she'll be reincarnated/level up and be pretty. The male lead's always handsome, or else, why would our super pretty and strong female lead want him and not his ten thousand other love rivals?

That's a bit strange. I've read a few novels with transformations. One had a fat female lead who lost weight and had a perverted system that made her do skinship/touching/feeling/kissing and then second, third base with the male lead to gain powers and cure her poison. That was raunchy and I kinda forgot the point of this comment 😶😶

old english novels sometimes give this before they succumb to uniform standards of beauty and still have characters with several flaws
generally asian novels have a tendency to feature beauties
Shen Miao is considered pretty but I don't think she is considered an earth shattering beauty. Then again even if she was she would probably use makeup to downplay it anyway. The author makes up for that with constant reminders of how hot XJX looks. >_>
DeleteOh right forgot about The Anarchic Consort. MC is definitely not considered beautiful though that can easily change since it is largely due to her dark skin.
DeleteI need to get back to Shen Miao, I kind of lost track of which chapter I was on and haven't gone back to it... She's repeatedly said to be pretty but not gorgeous and most of her beauty comes from her bearing as a former(does this count?) Empress. It's quite a novel way to turn an ordinary beauty into an earth shattering one imo.
DeleteTAC I.. don't have a comment on? She's said to be beautiful, but dark(exotic perhaps?). None of the chapters seem to dwell on her beauty so if you didn't mention she was supposed to be pretty I would have forgotten in all honesty.
I was actually thinking about about Misty Translations novel though, Genius Doctor, Black Belly Miss, The FL refers to herself as an ordinary beauty at the beginning of the novel, but a few chapters in, her description just changes to really beautiful without the author prompting it, just someone's observation ... Although now that I'm looking for it I can't find the exact chapter... I'm sure it's there somewhere in the first 100 chapters or so ~_~;
You can't rely on JWX for that sort of stuff. From the very beginning she was described as beautiful but undesirable because of how the original behaves.
DeleteThere is also PGC. Her beauty(after curing the scarring and stuff) played a role in the beginning but it seems to have been gradually dropped though I think it still pops up occasionally.
I don't think Li Wei Yang is said to be especially beautiful either although I don't recall any specific thing being mentioned and like Shen Miao their appeal is from their behavior.
Hahaha, that's true, very plausible for it to be an issue of unreliable narrator in JWX's case. She might just think she's normal but everyone else is like. Omg beautiful! XD Would be kinda amusing really.
DeleteI think most novels have it lowkey that the FL is amongst the most beautiful, it's rarely an actual plot point. (well aside from others using it to scheme against them.)

And it's interesting because she is Shu born, AND isn't the "cause the fall of nation" level of beauty.
Instead, her older (and Di) sister Le ChangLe is.
The most beautiful, the most talented, most kind, wise, elegant yadda yadda yadda young lady in the capital.
(but if you don't mind some mild spoilers: )
But as the series progresses, her awful and rotten personality starts to shows up (courtesy of a certain someone), and suddenly, Li Chang Le isn't the hottest ticket in town anymore.
And so, they start to appreciate the "not as beautiful" younger sister much more.
(btw, LWY is beautiful, and her poise brings this up. But not earthshaking/fairy/immortal/out of reality level as LCL is.)
(and the novel shows beauty is not all it seems)
(though of course the ML lead *has* to be more beautiful than the previous life one (sorta) *rolls eyes*. But to the novel's credit, both of them were the most handsome in the country - albeit of different kind of beauty - and the only one that could compete with the other in pretty much anything, looks included)
