Chapter 210.2 - Three gifts

“Emperor, before the third gift is presented, Yan has something to say.”

“Oh? What does prime minister Shu have to say?”

“This time that I’ve come to your noble country, sending gifts is the number one reason but the second reason, is to express my noble country’s sincerity and willingness to ally itself with Dong country. Shu Yunyan’s words could be like someone who was pursuing a retreating enemy.

Lou Qingwu’s performance was still fresh in everyone’s minds becauses after all, to gain the hearts of the people was to gain the world.

So how do you gain the hearts of the people? By ensuring that they’re able to live happily and peacefully.

But before that, there has to be no war, no battles.

The emperor grew silent.

He was originally leaning towards ‘waiting and seeing’, but what Lou Qingwu wanted to express, had moved him.

The more he thought about, the darker his eyes grew.

If it wasn’t for understanding that Lou family's eldest daughter had no ties with Xiliang country, he probably would’ve thought that she’d been bribed by them.

After all, performing such a related performance at such a time, was too coincidental.

But if he thought about it, it could possibly just be Lou Qingwu asking for him to consider the lives of people, to work together with Xiliang country for the benefit of Dongyu country.

Thinking it through, the emperor grew resolved.

At the same time, he felt like this Lou family’s eldest daughter, really was so clever that it made people uneasy.

“A very good phrase, leading to the losses of our people. It has been years since this emperor had ascended to the throne, and my biggest wish has been to ensure the people are able to live happily and peacefully. As your noble country and Dongyu country are able to have the same aims, then this emperor can promise prime minister, that Dongyu country will not cooperate with the Man clan. “Our country of course, will also not cooperate with the Man clan!” Shu Yunyan’s eyes grew bright.

He’d thought about it too deeply, if even a small little countess was so talented, it definitely wouldn’t be wise to have Dongyu country as an enemy.

He instantly hid the provocation in his eyes as he waved his hands to have people send up the third gift.

It was a snow white leopard, completely white with no other colours and it looked exceptionally pleasing.

The emperor was very happy and gifted many rare treasures too.

Lou Qingwu then turned around to return to her seat but when she walked past Shu Yunyan, she heard him speak again.

“This time, Yan really has to thank the Countess of Rende, for being such a big help to Yan.”

“Now prime minister Yan’s words aren’t right, when did I help you? I’m just helping those separated and dying citizens on our borders, so in the future, I hope prime minister Yan doesn’t speak carelessly. If those words are spread to anyone else’s ears, they’d even think that I was a spy for Xiliang country and then it’d very hard for me to clear myself.” Lou Qingwu innocently took a step backwards, as if scared to be linked to Shu Yunyan.

“The Countess of Rende really is …. Rende (benevolent and virtuous).” Shu Yunyan took a deep look at her. “But, I believe the Countess won’t care about any rumours that do fly.”

“En?” Lou Qingwu’s brows furrowed.

“What if Yan makes those rumours into reality?”

“Oh?” Lou Qingwu smirked, if he did say it out loud, he’d need other people to believe it first.

Shu Yunayn saw that she had misunderstood his meaning and laughed but didn’t explain himself.

The ‘reality’ he meant, was different to what she thought.

The banquet ended without a hitch but Lou Qingwu was asked to remain behind.

The emperor praised her again before letting her go.

But before she had left the palace, she was asking by a senior aide from Renshou palace, the empress dowager wanted to see her.

Xiliang country didn’t make any trouble with their third gift, but the empress dowager wants to make trouble.
