Chapter 211.1 - The empress dowager is difficult

Lou Qingwu followed the senior aide to Renshou palace, all the way to the main hall.

The senior aide she followed was in front, and then walked beside emperor dowager.

Lou Qingwu kneeled to greet her, “Subject-girl Lou Qingwu greets the empress dowager, may the empress dowager live for a thousand years.”

But the empress dowager didn’t say anything from above.

Lou Qingwu’s brows furrowed, as she lowered her head to greet the empress dowager again.

The empress dowager still didn’t say anything.

Lou Qingwu grew bold and lifted up her head as she saw the empress dowager reclining on an imperial consort recliner, one hand propping up her head as her eyes were closed.

The senior aide who brought her here, was massaging her shoulders as the hall was eerily calm.

The senior aide saw Lou Qingwu looked up and sneered at her, shaking her head and mouthing to her: the empress dowager has fallen asleep, the Countess of Rende can continue to wait for a bit.

Lou Qingwu lowered her eyes, how long would that wait be?

15 minutes? Two hours? Four hours?

Lou Qingwu sighed, it seemed like the empress dowager wanted to be difficult.

She’d always heard that the empress dowager had trouble sleeping.

So just then when she greeted the empress dowager, her voice wasn’t loud or soft, but it would’ve been enough to wake up an old person.

But she didn’t, so it meant that the empress dowager, was pretending to be asleep.

If it was anyone else, Lou Qingwu would’ve thought of a way to make them wake up.

But this time, the empress dowager had purposely come to find her.

She’d already thought that she might find a chance to make things difficult with her.

The empress dowager had always been close with the Night Prince, and it seemed like she’d heard the rumours about them and wanted to punish her for Feng Yege.

So she just thought of it as being filial to the empress dowager on behalf of her senior brother.

Lou Qingwu kneeled for a whole hour before the empress dowager stirred and slowly opened her eyes.

She held onto the senior aide to support her, as she sat upright.

“It’s Lou Qingwu?”

“Reporting to the empress dowager, that is subject-girl.”

“Why are you still kneeling? Stand up, oh, really. How could I let an imperially bestowed Countess of Rende keep kneeling? Qingwu, this child, why didn’t you wake me up?”

At that moment, the senior aide immediately dropped to her knees but the empress dowager waved a hand for her to stand up.

After watching this, Lou Qingwu’s face was still emotionless.

Who would dare to disturb the empress dowager’s rest?

Unless you didn’t want to stay at Renshou palace any more.

But if the empress dowager was giving her a platform to go down, she would walk down on that platform.

She slowly stood up, but because she’d been kneeling for too long, they felt numb.

She rubbed them before slowly standing upright.  

She stood courteously but as long as the empress dowager didn’t say anything, she wouldn’t say anything either.

The empress dowager then thought the time was about right, because if she didn’t leave soon, the palace gates would close.

She then slowly collected a cup of ginseng tea from the senior aide, sipping it, “Qingwu has reached marriageable age, right?”

“Yes, I’ve reached it.”

“Have you been betrothed?”

“Not yet.”

“Then … why don’t I choose a partner for you?” The empress dowager’s eyes were half lidded yet sharp on Lou Qingwu.

Lou Qingwu’s heart sighed.

It seemed like her recent actions weren’t taken well by the empress dowager, for her to actually say outright she wanted to betroth her to someone.

But how did she want to answer?

If she agreed, then the empress dowager would easily just choose anyone for her and she’d have to marry them.

But if she didn’t agree, that would be too outright of a rejection and not giving face to the empress dowager.

If that lead to her flying into a rage out of humiliation, then that would be too risky and she’d probably get into danger.

Lou Qingwu lowered her eyes and just as she was about to choose how to answer, she heard a voice call out from outside of the Renshou palace main hall, “The Night Prince arrives ---”
