Chapter 7.2 - Floating scent of a hundred beasts




Inside the room, the inverted image of Li Jingsheng sitting at the desk reflected on the window frame. Between his hands, a mandala flower bloomed beautifully.

Li Jingsheng leaned in closer but still felt like the scent being emitted was strange. But, it did smell nice.

He turned the bloody mandala flower in his hands over and over again as he examined it. The more he examined it, the more he felt like the mandala flower’s dye was red like blood.

His eyebrows furrowed unknowingly as he put the bone flower done.

Knock, knock!

Suddenly, the door was being knocked.

Li Jingsheng lifted up his eyes and saw a person standing in the middle of the door. The silhouette looked familiar. He stood up to open the door and saw Li Ziqing.

“Second brother!” Li Ziqing’s eyes were filled with excitement as he went up to hug his arm. “I heard that you’re about to bring me home? Father’s finally letting me go home?”

“Of course, when has second brother ever lied to you?”

Li Jingsheng seamlessly retrieved his arm from Li Ziqing’s arms and lowered his eyes that flashed annoyance.

When he lifted his eyes again, they were filled with brotherly respect. He rubbed Li Ziqing’s head but underneath his palm was coldness.

He stopped for a moment and fiercely turned towards Li Ziqing. The latter was still very excited but his breaths were making him uncomfortable.

“Okay, just calm down for the next few days. Second brother will say a few good words for you in front of father.”

“I knew second brother was the best!” He hadn’t been back at the capitol in three years, and he’d already grown bored of Liyang town.

“Then, second brother, when are we leav …”

Li Ziqing’s words suddenly stopped.

He stared at the bloody mandala flower on Li Jingsheng’s table. He stared at it even more intensely as he walked towards it.

He turned it over in his hands and fiercely turned his head backwards, glaring at Li Jingsheng as he yelled, “Second brother! What is this?”

“This … “ Li Jingsheng grew uncomfortable underneath Li Ziqing’s gaze.

Recalling how determined Li Ziqing was to chase after Lou Qingwu, he casually said, “Someone else gifted it to me.”

“Someone else?!” Li Ziqing grew even angrier, “This clearly was Miss Lou’s! Do you like her too? Do you?! Second brother! I liked her first, so you can’t like her! You already have Lianxin!”

“What are you on about?”

Li Jingsheng looked at how overbearing and arrogant Li Ziqing was and became increasingly frustrated, “Okay. It’s time to head back now. Stop making a mess.”

“Do you feel guilty?” Li Ziqing gripped the bone flower and started to shake, “You’ve always like snatching my things since we were young. Do you still want to snatch my things now? When father first sent me here, were you happy? So you don’t want me to go back now?

Of course, if I go back, everyone’s attention will be on me again. Then everyone will remember that you’re just a concubine born second son! I’m the first son! You’re just a slave born! Slave born! Even the girl that you’re marrying is slave born! Even if you’re of a higher official post, it still won’t change the fact. Slave born! Slave born! How about it, you still want to go after Miss Lou?

You remembered that she’s first born? Don’t even think about it! I’m going to tell father now how you talked to me. I’ll made father pull you down from that general rank!”

“You wouldn’t dare!”

Li Jingsheng became increasingly agitated from being called “slave born”. His eyes grew red and the fists lowered to his sides started cracking.

His breaths started coming faster.

That strange and exotic smell was being sucked into his body and he felt like all that suppressed anger was finally coming out.

Yes! He was slave born! Even though he clearly worked harder than Li Ziqing, he was more well achieved than Li Ziqing, but everyone looked down on him just because he was born from a concubine!

It was too hard, climbing up all the way from the bottom.

He couldn’t let Li Ziqing ruin it all!

He forcefully stepped forward, gripped Li Ziqing’s arms and with a dark face, “Who told you?”

The feelings that he had kept hidden the whole time, whilst pretending to be a good son, pretending to be a good older brother, how could this pig brain Li Ziqing find out?

“You’re admitting to it, right? You want to beat me up?”

Li Ziqing cried out. His piercing cries muddled Li Jingsheng’s head and he angrily yelled, “Shut up!”
