Chapter 116.1 - Dead with no body to show

When Feng Yege found Lou Qingwu, she was lying on the abandoned Ning family’s residences’ roof.

She lifted up her head to look at the darkened night sky, through slightly open eyes, the stars above here were bright like shattered pieces of jade.

Her expression was dull and bland, not showing anything out of the ordinary.

Feng Yege then let out a relieved breath.

He headed towards her.

When he stood in front of her, he didn’t speak but lied down next to her.

He copied her and looked up at the night sky above them.

After a long time, Lou Qingwu blinked and turned to face him.

She looked at Feng Yege’s handsome profile, “You don’t want to ask me anything?”

“Do you want to tell me anything?”

Feng Yege also turned to look at her, his eyes billowing with some sort of expression she couldn’t understand.

But for some reason, it comforted her.

Maybe right now she didn’t need anything but a person who would just peacefully listen to her.

The bottom of her heart was strongly surging with something, something that required her to find a way to vent out the strong shock and unease that she felt when she saw that portrait.

“How did you know that I was here?”

“Lan Bai took the portrait to see me. Even though I don’t know what sort of relation you have with the ninth madam in the portrait, I do know that she looks a lot like you. So she should be some kind of person from the Ning family.”

So when he first saw the portrait, he knew to find her here.

She was the type to cling to the past, this was something he knew from a very long time ago.

Lou Qingwu looked at him dazedly.

After half a beat, she lowered her eyes and turned away.

She lifted up a hand and covered her eyes.

After a long time, she slowly opened her mouth, “She is someone from the Ning family.”

She paused, before continuing, “She’s my mother. “

“En?” Feng Yege froze, “But your mother’s …”

The left prime minister Lou Qufeng’s legitimate wife had died many years ago, this was something the whole capital knew.

But now?

What was this?

Lou Qingwu shook her head, her expression unclear, “I don’t know either. Back then, my nursemaid said that they forced my mother to her death and that there was no corpse left to show.”

But many years later, the person that she thought was dead would resurface in her life and through this method.

She felt incredibly upset.

She’d always thought that she didn’t have a single relative left in this world.

Her father’s coldness, his apathy towards Lou Lianxin’s scheming heart had made her feel completely disappointed.

And in her previous lifetime, when she’d been framed by Ruan Zhen and Lou Lianxin, she was forced to live in the countryside to die there.

If it wasn’t for her meeting her senior brother, she thought, she probably wouldn’t have lived past that winter.

So after experiencing so much, even seeing her closest flesh and blood die, she’d always thought that she was all alone in these two past lifetimes.

Then to suddenly have someone tell her that she’d actually had a relative still alive, and this most closest relative was not only by her side but so close to her?

She’d been harmed so pitifully in her past lifetime but her mother had never stretched out to help her, not even a little bit.

When Ruan Zhen used the Ruan family to harm her, her mother who was at the Ruan family, just stood by and let her be?

She … did she also give up on her?

Just thinking about that possibility, she felt like her heart was dripping blood.

It hurt so much that she couldn’t control herself.

TL note:

Title is a bit awkward but it means when you know someone’s dead, but you have no corpse to show for it. E.g. when someone’s died in a fire and there’s only ashes but you’re pretty sure they’re dead. Until they pop up like 5 years later with amnesia and a baby. Wrong novel.
