Chapter 130.2 - Splashing him to sober him up

“So that’s to say, even if it’s not me, it could be someone else?” Xiahou Rui felt like his heart had been hit strongly by something.

With every word he spoke, it was burning pain.

“Yes.”

A sharp knife would cut through a mess easier.

She only wanted to take revenge, so these male-female feelings would all have to be cut cleanly.

Lou Qingwu’s coldness made Xiahou Rui purse his lips tightly, his hands gripping the golden goblet even harder.

But he could only helplessly hold his head in his hands.

Lou Qingwu looked down, her heart thinking before looking back up with the same cold eyes as before.

“Actually, second prince, you don’t even like me that much. It’s just a misgiving because I helped you.”

“It’s not like that.” Xiahou Rui immediately rejected that, but when he looked into Lou Qingwu’s eyes, his eyes moved away.

Her eyes were too empty and clear, as if they could see through a person’s heart, making him feel flustered for some reason.

“Really?” Lou Qingwu coldly muttered, “Second prince, do you want that position?”

Xiahou Rui knew she was talking about the throne.

Originally, he wasn’t too attached to that throne.

But after his father’s banquet, that line of thought had completely changed.

When he knelt down, his heart and body was a mess, his mind was completely blank.

All he knew was that if he went crazy then, his mother, his seventh brother, would all be done for.

He wanted to protect them so he could only stand at the highest point.

Otherwise, they could get back to the position of being stomped on again, at any time.

That made him incredibly uneasy, uncertain about the future.

This ending, wasn’t the one that he wanted to see so he wanted … that throne.

“Yes, I want to sit on that position.”

“Then I can help you, but,” Lou Qingwu looked at the clear wine in front of her.

She lifted up her wrist and drank in one go before looking back at Xiahou Rui.

“If you were to choose between me and that position, what would you choose?”

“Miss Lou?” Xiahou Rui didn’t understand.

Her and the throne weren’t mutually exclusive.

But Lou Qingwu’s eyes were too earnest, he suddenly became uneasy.

“Tell me, which one would you choose?”

“Miss Lou … don’t force me.” He suddenly covered his head.

His thoughts were in a mess.

If he gave up on her, he wouldn’t be willing.

But if he gave up on the throne, his mother, his seventh brother, would all face that uncertainty which would make him even more uneasy.

Lou Qingwu laughed.

“See, your heart already has an answer. You don’t like me that much. It’s just because of that small good feeling that’s been exaggerated by you. Even if it wasn’t me, it could be any other girl who helped you in that circumstance. You could’ve fallen in love with any other girl. Second brother, this is the gratitude underneath your coldness. It’s something that the other princes don’t have so that’s why I want to help you. But, I won’t imprison myself inside that cage. I believe, the second prince is clever and will be able to think it through.”

“....” Xiahou Rui was stunned as he looked up, his eyes dimming.

Really … it was like that?

“Second prince, carefully think it through. I’ll first take my leave. Oh, right, there’s one other thing. Even if I marry the third prince, it definitely won’t impact my ability to help you onto that position. So the second prince doesn’t have to worry about any of that.”

Leaving that behind, Lou Qingwu turned and was carefree as she left.

She hoped that after this time, they could become the best of partners.

Xiahou Rui sat alone in that room for a long time, dazed before he rubbed his forehead and laughed bitterly.

He slowly lifted up another bottle and drank it all, until it was dry.

He swayed as he stood up, heading towards outside.

But he knew, he had still given up on something.

And that the next time they met, it would be a completely new him.

But, did he really only feel …. gratitude towards her?
