Tang Er called towards Lou Qingwu, “Master”, before turning to Lan Bai, ‘Miss Lan Bai.”

Lan Bai looked at him two more times before realisation suddenly dawned on her.

“You’re one of master’s people.”

No wonder her master was able to get news of her kidnapping so quickly.

If he was the chief guard of the residence, then this whole residence was under his control.

He’d be able to get notice of anything that happened in the residence quickly so if the second madam wanted to take her away, it’d naturally have to pass through the residence’s guards.

Lou Qingwu saw that she understood before continuing, “It was Tang Er who thought of a method to notify me.”

When she was just about to leave the residence, she’d gotten notice and rushed back.

Their cloth, silk, rice and grain are all of similar quality to ours but they’re a lot cheaper so they snatched a lot of business from us. “What?” Ruan XIuren picked up the accounts book again before carefully flipping through it.

For some reason, he just felt like something was off.

Even if they were there to pressure them, his business couldn’t be this bad.

“How could there be fakes mixed in? My Ruan family has always had integrity as one of its core principles. Nothing like this has ever happened before, so how could something happen now? Where’s the second family’s people? The second young master who’s supposed to deal with the gold devices?”

“He, he ran.”

“Go grab the second young master for me!”

Ran? A good ‘ran’!

The housekeeper’s whole body trembled in fear, “The second master is outside.”

“Ruan Er, get yourself in here!”

Ruan Xiuren bellowed angrily towards outside.

A middle aged man then timidly pushed open the door with his head lowered, slowly making his way inside.

When he reached the study, he didn’t dare to look up at Ruan Xiuren, but even then, he could feel the violent cold aura rolling off Ruan Xiuren’s body in waves.

He felt it attacking him and his head started hurting.

But his own son had run away, leaving him with a huge mess so he could only harden up and bear it, “Big, big brother.”

“You still know that I’m your big brother! You’ve raised a good son! To use a fake as a replacement for some real gold devices, and then running away? Ha! What a good move! Did you know, that what he did, is about to ruin our Ruan family’s reputation!”

Once this was spread, his Ruan family’s credibility would drop to the ground!

All of the Ruan family’s business would suffer great losses!

Also, what kind of place was the number one Jinsi building?

They had ties with the underground black market, so offending them was like offending the whole black market!

TL note:

Don’t count your chickens before they hatch - in Chinese, they use ‘drawing water using a wicker basket to end up with nothing’, wicker baskets have holes so the water just falls through.

Ruan Xiuren’s stores - remember when LLX screwed up and Lou Qufeng/Ruan family suddenly owed the emperor like 100,000 gold ingots? Ruan Xiuren had to sell of his stores and LQW, sneaky fox, bought them all up.

Second family - Ruan Xiuren’s family is one family of the Ruan clan, presumably his second brother heads the second ‘family’ within the Ruan clan. So the second brother is called ‘second master’ and his son would be the ‘second young master’.
