The people who were frozen and holding their breaths, could finally let out a sigh of relief.

This consort Ying … had shot herself in the foot.

The empress’ mouth curled into a mocking smile.

After this edict was read out, Lou Qingwu froze too.

She’d never thought that the emperor would title her as a countess, her brows furrowed.

But her expression didn’t change as she silently lowered herself to bow, “Subject-girl thanks the emperor for his favour.”

The empress also froze.

She wanted to take in Qingwu as her god-daughter? Why didn’t she know that?

But in front of so many people, she couldn’t step on the emperor’s face and publicly go against him.

So she immediately stepped forward, holding Lou Qingwu’s hand as she laughed, “Originally, I wanted to say so earlier but I was scared of scaring you. Qingwu, you won’t blame your empress-mother, right?”

Lou Qingwu shook her head as she looked at the ground, feigning shock and happiness, “It’s Qingwu who’s overwhelmed by the empress’ favour. The empress’ favour, Qingwu …”

“Silly child, still calling me the empress? In the future, it will be empress-mother.”

“That … yes, empress-mother.” Lou Qingwu’s face slightly reddened as she called her.

The empress beamed and immediately called on her senior aid to bestow treasures to her.

When Lou Qingwu turned away, her eyes were questioning.

Every single thread of strangeness made Xiahou Qing’s brows furrow tighter.
